Character NAME: Kaidan Alenko
Canon & MEDIUM: Mass Effect 3//video game
Canon PULL-POINT: Very early in the game, just as they touch down on Mars after the invasion of Earth.
Character AGE: 35
Character ABILITIES: They can be seen here and over here! He is also proficient with these weapons.
Character HISTORY: Here! The specifics of his history based on the choices the PC can make are the same as our Shepard’s here.
Character PERSONALITY:
On the axis of morality, Kaidan’s pretty light-side. He doesn’t kill unless necessary – ‘necessary’ generally being in defence of his life or that of someone he cares for, or to stop someone giant asshole trying to destroy the galaxy. Also geth. Geth are fair game. And Cerberus. For the most part, he’s a level-headed sort of guy who likes to think things through before he does them – over thinks, typically. He’s loosened up a little due to influence from Commander Shepard, but experiences in his youth have resulted in him being fairly controlled, with respect to both his abilities and his emotions. He’s seen the dangers that acting without thinking, lashing out instead of being calm and rational about a situation can bring, and tends to carry that lesson around with him.
He doesn’t lack for humour, though – he’s not a laugh a minute kind of bloke, but he does have a dry sort of wit and isn’t afraid to make self-deprecating comments when something points out inconsistencies about his behaviour. While in general he manages to be calm and collected, when he’s around someone that he cares about a lot, he loses some of that. Okay, maybe a lot of that. He kind of derpifies when he’s in a potentially awkward emotional situation, and while he’s learnt his lesson about not physically lashing out, if someone hurts his man feelings, he can lose some of that carefully crafted control and lash out verbally.
Kaidan is an honest man, not one for subterfuge or lying, even when it might better serve him to keep quiet about certain things. If he sees an injustice, he won’t hesitate to speak out and take action against it, and that includes against superiors. He does have a tendency to give way to the opinions of those he respects, but the kind of people who earn his respect are invariably honest, hardworking people in the same general area of morality as him. He’s seen a few people make some bad decisions, and that includes himself; he’s not afraid to caution someone against heading down that path if he thinks they might have cause to. In a world where each species tends to view every other one with suspicion, if not outright malice, Kaidan has taken a potentially surprising lesson from his mistreatment at the hands of a turian – rather than hating all aliens as a result of this experience, he determined that every species has its assholes and angels, just like humans. He judges people by their actions, and tries to keep an eye on the bigger picture – although admittedly, sometimes his feelings can get in the way of that.
» EXSILIUM INFORMATION
Chosen WEAPON:
He basically has a brain implant located at the base of his skull that various bio-amps can be plugged into, which allows him to use biotics. His particular implant is an earlier model that gives him migraines, and I was thinking that as he/the weapon continues to grow, a) his migraines would lessen and b) it would improve the amp.
Chosen SKILLSET:
Definitely a fighter! He’s canonically a major who’s in charge of a bunch other human wrecking balls like him; biotics are frequently on the frontlines of ground combat.

First PERSON:
Examples from a previous game can be seen here!
Third PERSON:
It had been some time since Kaidan had last seen Shepard. In person, at least; for a while there she’d been splashed all over the newsvids. It hadn’t prepared him at all for running into her like that, and it definitely hadn’t prepared him for being on the same ship as her again.
He’d missed her. He could admit that much to himself. She’d been dead for two years, or something close to it, and he’d been so certain that he would never see her again. Never be able to tell her what he’d been too wrapped up in protocol to say earlier. And then they’d run into each other on Horizon, and he’d been too…everything else. He could feel that argument sitting between them now, as they fled Earth for Mars. He couldn’t help but wonder if it would always be there.
He couldn’t waste time wondering for too long, though. Earth was burning, and whatever personal issues he had with Shepard, he’d never stopped believing that so long as she remained herself and not under Cerberus’ control, she would be the woman for the job. If they were going to have any hope of getting through this, they needed her on side.
If only he could be sure that she wanted to be.
He had to put that aside for now, though. If it was impossible for them to have the same camaraderie they’d had when they were chasing Saren, he could at least manage professionalism. He and Shepard could speak later, but first of all they had a duty to make sure that there was a later to speak in. Kaidan spent the rest of the trip keeping mostly to himself, meticulously double checking his weapons, quietly grateful that he hadn’t spend a lot of recent time in the field. The last thing they needed right now was for him to keel over with a migraine from overexertion.
There was something comforting about being back on the Normandy, though. It was a piece of familiarity in the midst of all this uncertainty. Even if it wasn’t the same physical ship, there was just something about the atmosphere that you couldn’t reproduce anywhere else. Probably that had a lot to do with Joker, who’d greeted him with his usual caustic humour and flew the ship with his usual easy skill. Used to the pilot’s less than good nature, it hadn’t bothered Kaidan at all. Truth be told, he’d missed the guy just as much as the rest of the crew. No time for talk to him either, though.
The pilot’s voice came over the speaker’s then, announcing their ETA. Kaidan sighed, picking his weapons up and putting them back where they needed to be. After. There’d be time for it all after. He could only hope.
